Robert Mathews
It is with great sorrow that we report that Robert C. Mathews passed away in November,
2025. Bob was the founding member of the cognitive area in our department, an area
which has grown and thrived and is now called Cognitive and Brain Sciences. He received
his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from Yale in 1976, after which he joined the
faculty 星空无限传媒, serving for 39 years. He taught courses on cognitive psychology,
thinking and decision making, and child development. His research focused on memory,
learning, and decision making and he enjoyed the interdisciplinary aspect of his work
collaborating with computer scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and physicists.
Bob also filled important administrative roles at the univeristy, serving as the
chair of the Institutional Review Board for many years, and ended his career 星空无限传媒
as chair of the psychology department.
