BATON ROUGE -- The College of the Coast & Environment is excited to award degrees to its 2022 summer graduates. 

鈥淲e are very proud of our summer 2022 Masters and PhD graduates, and we can鈥檛 wait to see what great things they do next,鈥� said Kam-Biu Liu, the chair of the Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences. 鈥淥ur department applies a cutting-edge approach in preparing our students to meet real-world coastal and environmental issues in Louisiana and around the globe. This rigorous training means our graduates have an out-sized impact wherever they may land.鈥�

鈥淭he Department of Environmental Science offers a wide range of interdisciplinary experiences to all our students, and this ensures they are prepared to meet the environmental challenges of the 21st century head on,鈥� said Department of Environmental Sciences Chair Kevin Armbrust. 鈥淐ongratulations to the summer class of 2022 and good luck in all your future endeavors!鈥�

CC&E Director of Undergraduate Programs Vince Wilson noted that this summer鈥檚 four Coastal Environmental Sciences (CES) graduates bring the overall total CES alumni up to an even 250. 鈥淭oday鈥檚 graduates should take enormous pride in your accomplishment and know that we in the College of the Coast & Environment are proud of each of you." 

Anthony Sagnard, a CES graduate, spoke about what he鈥檇 learned from the degree. 鈥淚 believe the most important thing I've learned is how such minute factors in our lives can have such a large impact on the environment and the health of those who dwell there. Things we would consider small in size like certain grasses, insects, or even a small chemical imbalance can drastically affect the health and outcomes of an ecosystem.

Sagnard is one of two CES graduates continuing on to work toward a Master鈥檚 degree in Public Health from LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, as part of CCE鈥檚 3+2 program.

After her graduation, CES alumna Avery Grimm plans to start her job as a field chemist at Clean Harbors in Baton Rouge. 鈥淚 learned as a student in CC&E that my degree goes beyond science. Environmental science is important in industrial development and production, natural disaster prevention and the health of humans.鈥�

鈥淭his is not an easy degree,鈥� said Wilson. 鈥淭he rather rigorous CES curriculum provides students with a solid platform in the math & sciences from which to enable numerous career options and to spearhead their future successes.鈥� 

鈥淎mong the highlights of my job are teaching and helping to guide students for success. It鈥檚 always exciting to see how their careers unfold. I extend my congratulations to our 2022 alumni,鈥� said CC&E Dean Chris D鈥橢lia.
